It was a joy watching this young group in action during open gym, as it gave us a great oppotunity to learn new names that will be coming through the landscape in the coming years. This is a balanced team overall that has weapons all over the court, and certainly names you will be hearing more of down the road.
2031 Spalding Gray was one who immediately stood out with his composure, his maturity for the game, and understanding of how to play in helping lead the way. He is crafty and brings a high IQ to the game, being a playmaker for others as well as a strong creator as well. And with him playing up, the future looks bright for him. 2030 CJ Smith, the younger brother of Nick Smith Jr., who played at Arkansas and in the NBA, will be another name you will hear about in the coming years. He has an advanced feel for the game, showcasing the ability to create space, score from multiple levels, and excel as a scorer off the bounce. There is a lot to like about his overall game and upside. Another prospect they look to be high on is 2030 Jayden Tona, especially with the size he brings early on, the ability to operate inside and out, and the upside that he brings to the table. We expect him to grow more, which will certainly make him an even more appealing prospect down the road, but he gives you those early flashes that have to excite you.
Kemari Hays was one who was able to be a big threat from outside, showing range in catch-and-shoot situations. Robbie McCarthy brought tremendous energy to the court, impacting the game on the glass, playing with a motor, and proving to be a scoring option on the court. CJ Ruddock is a point guard who helps run the show, understands how to create and find teammates, and has a solid feel for the game with the ball in his hands. Devin Johnson and BJ Haynes will be two others who should bring value in areas of the court, whether it is scoring, defending, or rebounding.
