After nearly six months of summer basketball, the travel season has ended and the yearly shift towards high school hoops has finally begun. Although there is still a lot of basketball going on between camps, fall leagues, and other preseason jamborees, this is typically the quietest time of the year for the grassroots community. Which, in turn, means there’s no better time to start highlighting individuals who have the tools and ability to be breakout players over the next eight months. While this notion could certainly apply to a variety of prospects, the emphasis is primarily on younger guys with an increased role, new school situation, or those who simply take the next step in their progression. Although he’s largely unknown to the masses, Frednado Siah (Cresset Christian/Team Loaded South) has clear appeal as a long-term prospect. Let’s take a closer look…
It shouldn’t be surprising to see intrigue surrounding a 6-foot-7 forward who possesses excellent physical tools, fluid athleticism, and a blossoming identity on both ends of the floor. Siah is already able to impact the game as a steady, low-maintenance option who doesn’t necessarily require touches to make his presence felt. He already finds success through simply being physical and playing hard at all times. Siah is a terrific rebounder with a quick second and third jump, and the general activity to outwork opponents for extra possessions.
Furthermore, he’s able to wreak havoc defensively with his blend of toughness and physicality. Siah utilizes his length and anticipation well to contain his assignment, force turnovers, and block shots. He works hard to make hustle plays and fill in the gaps as needed. However, Siah does highlight flashes of developing offensive ability. He’s able to finish well, both above the rim and through contact, but can also attack off the bounce and space the floor as needed. Although he’s still only scratching the surface of his long-term potential, there’s already so much to like about Siah. Expect him to quickly emerge as a vital piece and overall building block for Cresset Christian over the foreseeable future.
