This weekend certainly had plenty of storylines for our scouts to walk away with. One team that grabbed and ultimately earned our attention was Oak City, as they were able to walk away undefeated at the event with a 4-0 record and a championship in the 16u Division.
On Saturday, they had a tough outing against a talented Elite 1 2028 team, where they were able to squeak by with a narrow win. They backed that up with a strong showing against Combine McGill. On Day 2 though, this is where Oak City was able to make a statement with two impressive wins against Rising Pros Training and Most Hated NC.
Overall, this was a well-coached team and a really strong, balanced team. They played well with each other, shared the ball, made the right reads, and were well-balanced inside and out. They had strong guards that were able to score off the bounce, attack in transition, and knock down shots, as well as options inside as well.
2028 Will Yardley was one who certainly earned our attention with his shot-making ability, displaying range and feel along with confidence. He really opened up the offense from behind the arc as well as being able to score off the bounce. 2028 Jack Cantando is a 6’4 guard who is able to thrive with his size, feel, and overall skillset, really helping set the tone. And then you have 2028 Noah Martin, who also garnered attention with his ability to fit within the offense and do what is needed. He was able to bring size, impact on the glass, and be a scoring factor down in the paint.
Again, though, this team played extremely well together this past weekend at the Phenom May Madness, with strong guard play, good size, and a balanced overall attack. They clearly put themselves on the map with our platform, and we are eager to see more of them this summer on the Phenom Platform.
