Typically this would be Championship Sunday, where the cream rises to the top. However, Nike is in sessions so this Sunday was predetermined league games. With no championship to be had, some players came out flat on Sunday (yes even the elite players).
Here are the guys who we saw (remind you that with 6-8 games played at a time, we did not get to see every game played at all times) stepped up on Sunday
6’2” 2019 Cole Anthony
PSA Cardinal (NY)
It is hard to imagine Anthony is only a sophomore in high school. He is so poised with the ball in his hands and has the utmost respect of every person on his team. He leads the entire EYBL in assists rate with a 59.7% mark (2nd place is at 45%). He can do it all on the floor, score or dish, and he has a huge IQ. Big time prospect.
6’6” 2018 Keldon Johnson
Boo Williams (VA)
Johnson has done enough to move himself into the nation’s Top 10 type prospects. He is an elite 2-way player who takes on the oppositions top player and also gets his own buckets. This weekend he was tasked with defending Jontay Porter and Jairus Hamilton, but still went on to average 23.5 points on 52.5% shooting from the field. That is not to mention the 10 rebounds per game. He has gone out and taken his ranking for himself, it is very much deserved.
6’8 2019 Keion Brooks
Spiece Indy Head (IN)
Brooks is a lengthy, athletic ball of energy on the floor. His game reminds some of Jarron Blossomgame as he floats in between the 3 and the 4 player assignments. One could also draw some similarities between he and fellow Hoosier state product Kris Wilkes at the same stage. He has upside as a lock down defender and his ability to produce across the board is what intrigues. He averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 boards and 1.8 assists on the day. He is a Top 25 type prospect and carries an offer sheet that agrees with that.
6’8” 2018 Jaylen Hoard
CP3 All Stars (NC)
Hoard came into the EYBL with a lot of hype. He also had a lot of questions as not many had seen him. He has been in the country for less than a year (from France). It may have taken him a bit to catch his groove, but boy did he ever do so in Atlanta. Over the four games the 6’8” wing averaged 23 points on 68% shooting from the field and 42% from beyond the arc. He also added 8.8 boards and 1.5 assists per outing. He is playing a level above most right now if this sustains watch him rise high on the national rankings.
6’11” 2018 Flo Thamba
Team United (NC)
Thambo knows who he is and plays within himself. He is an elite level defender who has natural timing and great athleticism/explosion. He finishes everything around the rim and runs the floor like a wing. Thamba is very strong with great defensive timing as his fingertips graze his knees when standing up straight. On the weekend Thamba averaged 8.5 points, 8.8 boards and a blocked shot per game. He is a true game changing defender and a double/double threat each time he steps on the floor.
