The month of June is a big one for Phenom Hoops and scouts around the region, as we get a chance to check out teams early on before the season, while pieces also start to move around. There are plenty of new names in new places, but one we are highly eager to see this coming high school season is 2028 Jermier Nelson, now at Carmel Christian.
Nelson is certainly a familiar name for us at Phenom Hoops, as we have highlighted him for some time now. Whether it was his time at Fort Mill or during AAU season, Nelson has performed at a high level as a point guard in leading the way, with his balance of creating and attacking, being a playmaker with a high IQ, and also impacting the game in other ways.
Our own scout, Patrick O’Brien, recently suggested Nelson as a stock riser, having said this:
“From the end of high school season to where we sit today, Nelson has seen a steady uptick in his recruitment and deservingly so. We have talked about Nelson for quite some time as a point to watch more, and programs are catching on early. He had a big season in which he averaged 20 points per game and carried that over into the spring/summer, showcasing his ability to create for himself and others. He plays with poise and confidence, is strong off the bounce, can score inside and out, and also plays off the ball to knock down shots. He dictates the action really well as a lead guard, displaying pace and vision but also balances that out as a scorer.”
Fast-forward to today, Nelson now has his eyes on leading Carmel Christian to high levels this upcoming season. During the NCISAA LIVE Period, Nelson was able to flourish early on and lead his team on the court as a scorer and leader on the court. And we don’t think that will change heading into the season, as Nelson should instantly impact and lead this year’s team.
And with his strong play this summer, his recruitment has taken a big jump as well, with offers from Saint Louis, UNCG, and Coastal Carolina coming in as of late, also joining Old Dominion, High Point, and East Carolina.
As Carmel Christian looks ahead to the upcoming season, Nelson appears poised to be one of the key pieces in helping lead the program. His ability to control the game as a floor general, create offense for himself and others, and provide leadership on both ends of the court gives Carmel a strong foundation to build around. With his recruitment continuing to trend upward and his confidence at an all-time high, Nelson looks ready to have a big season on one of the state’s premier stages. If his recent performances are any indication, expect him to be a major catalyst for Carmel Christian while continuing to establish himself as one of the top guards in the Class of 2028.
