Out in Tennessee we go, as Phenom Hoops spoke to 2024 Tyler Tanner from Brentwood Academy who has been receiving more attention with his play. Starting the season at 12-3 and with Tanner playing a big part in that success, the point guard recently added a new offer from Ole Miss. He spoke to us about the season so far, more about his game, and the latest in his recruitment.
Phenom: How has everything been going at Brentwood so far this season'
Tanner: Everything is going really well. We have a new coach, Andy Blackston, and he has been great for our team all around on and off the court. Our team chemistry this year is better than ever; we all know how to play together, and we all put the team’s needs before our needs. I’m really enjoying playing and having a ton of fun.
Phenom: What has been your focus this season in providing and helping with your team'
Tanner: I’ve tried to be more of a leader for my teammates this year and always make the players around me better. My coaches tell me that sometimes I need to be less unselfish and look for myself a little more and being aggressive helps me to score but also gives opportunities to my teammates too which I love.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game'
Tanner: I like to play fast and get in transition; I love our offense this year and I get a lot of opportunities out of it to score and get downhill and finish or hit mid-range shots.
Recruitment Update
Tanner added another offer to his list recently, as Ole Miss was the latest school to offer. Ole Miss is his fourth offer, now joining Vanderbilt, Tennessee Tech, and Hampton. He spoke to us about his thoughts on the offer from the Rebels and some of the latest.
“Yes sir I think it’s a great offer because the SEC is where I really would want to play. I really appreciate Coach Kirby for coming to watch and seeing me play in person, so he could see things that can’t be seen on stat sheets.”
As far as other schools continuing to stay strong with him, Tanner says schools like Belmont, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, and Vanderbilt. He also has plans on visiting Vanderbilt and Ole Miss, while already visiting Tennessee and Belmont before.
“I really enjoyed both; Tennessee was great to see an SEC campus and how nice the facilities are, and Belmont was amazing to learn about a campus that I’ve been around my whole childhood but more in detail.”
