Following tonight’s slate of games, the Final Four in all the NCHSAA classifications will be set. Although this new, seemingly unnecessary realignment for public school programs appeared to be a direct money ploy at first, it’s actually made for some highly entertaining playoff games. In turn, we will take a closer look at each of the upcoming semifinal matchups as they are determined, jumping over to 2A…
Voyager (2) v. Warren County (8)

Easily one of the most intriguing matchups on display, Voyager and Warren County will face off in what should ultimately be one of the more unpredictable contests across the NCHSAA playoffs. For Voyager, their 22-7 record falls directly in line with the level of success they’ve maintained well over the last decade. However, this year presents them with a real opportunity to compete in the state championship contest. The production of senior leader Darin Jones stands out from the immediate look-test, but guys like Tristan Gibson, Carlos Green, Julian Quinones, and Ethan Carey all play vital roles for this group. Jones and Gibson combine for over half the team’s scoring, so their offensive contributions will be an obvious x-factor in this game.

Meanwhile, Warren County has gone through some unusual ups and downs for a team in the final four. After falling to 2-6, the Eagles quickly turned things around to finish the rest of their schedule with an 11-3 record. They’ve seemingly hit their stride at the perfect time, going into the playoffs. Similar to their opponent, most of their production comes from only four players. The likes of Nazir Shaw, Khalil Townsend, Jeremiahe Kearney, and Elijah Stevenson combine for over 80% of their total scoring. Senior Shaw and sophomore Townsend lead the way, accumulating half of the scoring and playmaking statistics. Given the structure on both sides, it’ll be fascinating to see which team advances forward.
