Following tonight’s slate of games, the Final Four in all the NCHSAA classifications will be set. Although this new, seemingly unnecessary realignment for public school programs appeared to be a direct money ploy at first, it’s actually made for some highly entertaining playoff games. In turn, we will take a closer look at each of the upcoming semifinal matchups as they are determined, skipping over to 4A…
Salisbury (3) v. Central Davidson (4)

Although it feels like no one should be shocked that either of these teams reached the Final Four, it’s worth noting that both squads had to upset higher-seeded opponents to get here. Since they have similar records, the biggest separator is how Salisbury handled business in their only meeting this season (62-48). For the Hornets, Braylon Taylor has enjoyed somewhat of a breakout season as a well-rounded leader. Jon Ross provides a rugged, physical, versatile presence. Royce Perkins runs the team with IQ, poise, and unselfishness. Blake Smith is a natural glue-guy who does a little bit of everything. Add in the fact that this group has made several playoff runs over the last few years and have the experience to compete with anyone, and they have the tools to advance forward.

Meanwhile, Central Davidson continues to trend upward as a program. They have a slew of meaningful contributors who can emerge on any given night. Carson Hulsizer is a crafty guard with the ability to create for himself and others and score in various ways. However, guys like Marcus Bush, Bryson Mullins, and several others play vital roles for this group. Although they are 3-3 in their last six games, it’s clear that this group is hitting its stride at the right time. They will need to be prepared for a physical battle against one of the toughest, most aggressive teams in the state.
