No. 5 5’11 ’17 Jalen Spicer (NW Guilford)
Jalen is a quick and crafty point guard that plays with a high basketball IQ and excellent understanding of the game. He is difficult to contain either in the full or half court. Jalen does a terrific job of changing pace with the dribble and is difficult to keep out of the lane. Coach West stated, “Jalen plays with a high motor. His 3-point shooting has improved greatly and he is very explosive and finishes well for a player his size.” We were impressed with his outstanding court demeanor and tremendous attitude. He definitely leads by example.
No. 16 6’1 ’17 Matt Halvorsen (Christ School)
Matt came into the event with the reputation of being one of the more efficient 3-point shooters in the state. Although he got hurt in the first game, he played the rest of the game. Coach West stated, “Matt is a tremendous 3-point shooter especially from the corner. He has deceptive quickness.” In addition to be an excellent shooter, Matt impressed us with his court vision and timely passes. Unfortunately for Matt, he wasn’t able to finish the day due to his injury.
No. 31 6’2 ’17 Jaylan McGill (Quality Education)
Jaylan is a quality athlete and versatile perimeter guard. He can easily play both guard positions and makes things happen on both ends of the court. While he is a gifted offensive player, we were very impressed with his defensive intensity and full throttle approach especially on defense. Coach West stated, “Jaylan had a great attitude and was very coachable. He can get to the rim or drain it beyond the arch.” More importantly, Jaylan is such a competitor on the court and will do all the intangibles to make his team successful.
No. 46 6’4 ’19 Donovan Gregory (Northside Christian)
Donovan is one of the more explosive athletes in the state and he’s only a freshman. He attacks the rim relentlessly and will punish the rims at every opportunity. Coach West stated, “Donovan is a very athletic wing player and runs the floor extremely well. He is probably a better catch and finish guy as opposed to a catch and shoot.” Donovan has a blue-collar work ethic on the court and plays hard on both ends of the court. The next step in his development is to tighten up his handles and expand his perimeter shooting which will really open up his game and stock.
No. 49 6’4 ’18 Qon Murphy (Hough HS)
Qon is a tremendous athlete with great length and potential. Coach West stated it best, “Qon has an abundance of upside and potential. He can get to the rim due to his strength, length and overall athleticism.” Without question, Qon has all the tools to take his game to the next level. If Qon can extend his range and enhance his perimeter shooting mechanics, his stock will explode. More importantly, Qon can play multiple positions and guard multiple positions, but his ability to handle the ball for his size is probably one of his strongest attributes. We strongly believe the sky’s the limit for his young man.
No. 57 6’5 ’17 Reggie Davis (NW Guilford)
Reggie is a high level athlete that plays with an extremely high motor. He has tremendous leaping ability and impeccable timing. Caoch West stated, “Reggie is a strong finisher usually with a dunk. He is very coachable and knows how to play well in a team structure.” More importantly, we were impressed with his overall play. He does all the little things, the intangibles that often don’t show up in the box score. Reggie plays so hard and gives maximum effort on each and every play. His high energy DNA combined with his pure raw athleticism makes him such an intriguing prospect. The next step in his development is to enhance his ball handling skills.
No. 75 6’6 ’17 John Meeks (The Burlington School)
Consistency is John Meeks calling card. He combines tremendous athleticism along with an advanced skill set plus a high basketball IQ. Coach West stated, “John had three great games. He is so athletic, jumps well and finishes with dunks! John was a great kid to coach.” In our opinion, John may be one of the most underrated and undervalued players in the state for his class. He has tremendous timing for offensive rebounds that are finished with dunks. He can shoot off the dribble, catch and shoot and can easily score from all three levels on the court. John has a complete game and should see his stock rise immensely this summer. Yes, he is that good!
No. 86 6’8 ’17 Jacob Brown (Calvary Baptist)
You won’t find many 6’8 young players that have the ability to stretch the defense as Jacob Brown. He has a nice shooting touch out to the 3-point line and his shooting mechanics and technique are high level. Coach West stated, “All Jacob needs is additional strength to extend his game. He is extremely coachable.” We were impressed with his high basketball IQ and overall knowledge for the game. In addition Jacob has the ability to put the ball on the floor and is excellent passer for his size/position. Again, strength is all he needs to take his game to another level!
No. 87 6’8 ’17 Jon Bryan (Carmel Christian)
Simply put, Jon Bryan was one of the hardest working players at camp. He has a blue-collar approach to the game and what he may lack in athleticism, he more than makes up with hustle and desire. Coach West stated, “Jon is very coachable. He jumps deceptively well. He finishes strong around the rim and has nifty footwork in the paint.” More importantly, Jon plays the game the correct way. He has a high basketball IQ and understands his role and is a willing passer out of the post. The next step in his development is to improve his overall quickness.
