One of the more notable prospects in the Class of 2029 here in North Carolina, 2029 6’2 Braeden Greenup already has the attention of so many and he hasn’t disappointed this season at South Granville. Leading his team in nearly all categories as a freshman, Greenup has proven time after time early on that he looks to be a force throughout his high school career.
Greenup has been coming up through the Phenom Hoops platform of the last year or two, and even shined on the big stage with some of the best freshmen around the state at the NC Freshman 40 Camp. At the camp, our scouts had this to say about his game:
“Greenup is simply an impactful player whose IQ, motor, and nose for the ball allow him to cause constant problems for opponents. He’s a polished, well-rounded piece with the size and athleticism to consistently generate clean looks for himself and others. Greenup scored with efficiency from all levels while setting up others, defending with toughness, and regularly doing the little things. He does a great job of leading by example.”
When watching him recently, there is a lot to like about this young man’s game, but you can also see that there is room for growth and development, making him an even tougher prospect for opponents in the future. Greenup is a well-rounded guard that showed flashes of his ability to be a multi-level scorer, whether it is being physical in attacking off the bounce, getting paint touches, and finishing strong, or his ability to get to his spots from outside. He mixes it up well and he does a great job in creating those extra opportunities and outworking opponents on the offensive end. You can see early on that he thrives in competing, finding ways to make plays, read the floor, and attack to get to his spots. And he knows how to simply be an effective scorer, but also a guard that has good early size, embraces being a high-motor guy, and finds other ways to help his team.
It is just the start for this young freshman here in North Carolina, but he has already carved out a nice start to his career in being one of the top freshmen in the class. As he adds more to his game and refines his game in areas, Greenup will only become that much tougher as a prospect, and college programs will be looking to head his way even more.
