As the Class of 2029 continues to take shape nationally, there are prospects already making a name for themselves with size, tools, and long-term upside. In this edition of National Prospect Watch, we take a closer look at 2029 6’10 Mamadou Issa Sow, a young big man whose physical profile and emerging skill set are beginning to draw attention. With his length, presence around the basket, and room for growth, Sow is a name evaluators will want to track closely as he continues his development on the national stage.
Phenom Hoops had an opportunity to watch Sow back at the Frosh/Soph Camp with Pangos, as he was able to walk away with top honors and clearly made a name for himself. It was hard not to notice him, as he stands at 6’10 “and has a blossoming skill set that should only continue to develop in the coming years. After the camp, Patrick O’Brien had this to say: “When watching all the talent on display, Issa Sow stood out immediately with his 6’10 frame and long frame. The big man was able to showcase a lot of intriguing tools in his game as well as potential left in his development. The big man did a great job in showing a nice skill set as a prospect of his size and position, not only finishing at the rim with power but also being comfortable from a variety of other levels. Issa Sow showed promise with his handles, being able to put the ball on the deck and attack the basket, and was comfortable at times popping out along the perimeter. He also ran the floor to get into position in the paint and was effective in transition. His motor, fluidity, length, finishing ability, and potential from outside at times all impressed and showed promise of what he may ultimately be in the coming years.”
Sow clearly looked the part when we watched him, but he also showed potential in what he could ultimately be, which is why we are looking at him as a prospect on the national level. Time will only tell, but Sow is going to be a player you will want to learn about and watch more.
