Player:
Dearvae Heard

Class:
2019

Height/Weight:
6’3″/180lb.

High School:
Greenbrier Christian Academy

HS Coach Evaluation:
Dae Dae has a special skill set as a rising freshman basketball player. He has a lethal “mid-range game” and has the ability to power and drive the basketball against smaller guards and wing players. Dae Dae versus bigger wings has a consistent pull up jump shot, and has enough quickness and strength to drive by them. He is a strong rebounder in traffic, who mixes in his agility to get out of the area rebounds. Dearvae Heard is a humble kid who loves to be in the gym working on his game. – Coach Donald Hand, Greenbrier Christian Academy Head Coach

AAU Club Name:
Boo Williams

AAU Coach Evaluation:
“Daedae” is a combo-forward who is explosive with very good body control, can make plays off the bounce, and is also a much underrated passer. Rebounding is a strong suit along with his ball handling which allows him to start the break in search of early offense. This ability allows him to show his versatility in transition.

Needs to improve ball handling, jump shot, and lateral movement to defend on the ball. – Coach Clifford Coleman, Asst Coach Newport News Apprentice School / Boo Williams AAU

Coach Frank says:
Dearvae is a strong and physical 6’3, 180 pound guard with an impressive frame for a 15 year old and a high basketball IQ to match. In addition to an imposing frame and a strong core he has explosive jumping ability, excellent footwork and quickness and an advanced skill set! The son of former Maury HS star Ray Heard who used a similar frame to provide the Commodores with a solid post presence as an undersized post on a guard oriented team that ranked among the best in Virginia during his playing days, Dearvae has the gift of not only that physical stature but of a father engaged and knowledgeable. Dearvae also has the luxury of playing for one of the area’s top AAU coaches Clifford Coleman and his high school coach is former UVA star and All ACC guard Donald Hand who has made a quick impact in his skills development and court management. Dearvae handles the ball well and uses his strong frame to get into the body of the defender. He is a productive playmaker with a disciplined mid range jumper who can get to the basket where his physicality and explosiveness allows him to be a high percentage finisher. A high energy, relentless rebounder who has a nose for the basketball, Dearvae is quick off his feet and is an excellent repeat jumper. He is a very good perimeter defender who has been tasked with defending every position on the floor at the high school level and has done so effectively.

At various college team camps this summer and during AAU, Dearvae impressed college coaches including Division 1 coaches.
