Player: Roosevelt Wheeler

Class: 2021

Height: 6’8

High School: Hampton High School (Hampton, VA)

AAU Club Name: Boo Williams – Chamblee

HS Coach Evaluation: Roosevelt “Big Rose” Wheeler is an ELITE rim protector at a very young age. His timing to block shots and keep them in play will help Hampton High School and BWSL 15U EYBL this Spring/Summer. The big fella has a soft touch around the rim, shoots the short corner jump shot well and capitalizes on his free throw attempts. With continued work on his footwork and finishing through contact the sky is the limit for Roosevelt. I expect him to be an impact player immediately in the Peninsula District. – Coach Rodney Berry, Asst Coach – Hampton High School, Asst Coach Boo Williams EYBL

Coach Frank says: Fourteen year old Roosevelt Wheeler has grown nearly four inches in the past year and at 6’8 not only has great height but has impressive skills and has obviously been coached up. He has very good footwork and a couple back to the basket moves he executes very well. Roosevelt does a good job sealing his defender and asking for the basketball, has great hands and mobility. While he is very good with his back to the basket, Roosevelt looks comfortable facing the rim and hitting the jumper to 15 feet but given his good shot mechanics and work habits it is easy to picture him being a capable shooter with good range down the road. I thought he handled the ball well receiving it in the 15 foot range and getting to the rim but that too is a skill he obviously is developing and appears to have good grasp of the fundamentals. He is a good repeat jumper with good bounce and is an active rebounder. Roosevelt is an imposing figure in the paint quickly getting to rebounds or in position to contest and block shots. It will be fun to watch Roosevelt’s growth as he could become one of the most dominant players in his class in Virginia. His skill, size and athleticism are so impressive at a young age and his upside is through the roof! Watch for him, he’s got a chance to be special!
