Mike Barfield-Owens has really matured not only as a basketball player but as a person. He is a “gym rat”, always asking to stay back after practice sometimes for hours to put in extra work on certain areas of his game. He has gotten much better at reading defenses, seeing how teams react to him and making the right pass or play based on his reads. Mike is a dominant player on the boards, alters and blocks shots near the paint. He is an above the rim finisher! Mike Barfield-Owens is one of the 757’s biggest impact players on both ends of the floor. Actually plays bigger than 6’5 especially on the defensive end where he competes at a high level and contests shots. He is an excellent shot blocker. Mike has very good lateral mobility allowing him to defend the perimeter as well as the paint. He stays active, plays with a high motor and rebounds both ends, is an excellent repeat jumper and battles on every rebound. Offensively he has really improved his perimeter skills and is comfortable and efficient shooting the face up jumper to 15 or 18 feet. Attacks the basket aggressively where is a strong finisher who will dunk on a defender. Absorbs contact and gets to the foul line. His progress over the past year has been impressive and Mike has vaulted himself among the area’s best talents. Few match his athleticism, strength and mobility. Fewer yet match his motor and work ethic!
