In the game against Mid State Magic at the Grassroots TOC, 6’0 ’17 Tyson McClain had a game high 25 points including five 3-ponters. As a matter of fact, this game was a stereotypical game Tyson has enjoyed for his high school team (Dorman HS, SC) and his travel basketball team (Upward Stars Upstate-Dawkins). One thing is for certain; Tyson McClain is wired to score. It’s in his DNA.
The high scoring combo guard is efficient from the perimeter, especially from the 3-point line. We were really impressed with his ability to create his own shot off the dribble. He has excellent handles and could easily transition to the PG position at the next level. While he may not have the desired height (6’0), he more than makes up for it with his enormous length and athleticism. To put it mildly, Tyson McClain plays much bigger than his listed 6’0 frame.
While we really like Tyson’s physical attributes (excellent length and athleticism), however we are equally impressed with his poise and maturity. He has a “shooter’s confidence” and moxy that is quite evident. More importantly, Tyson is a strong competitor and values winning. All these attributes and intangibles should translate well for the next appropriate level.
