AAU Coach Evaluation:
Caleb has a big body and great footwork, body control allows him to create space to score around the basket. This asset supplements the lack of elite level athletic ability. He uses his size to get deep into the paint where he can finish over both shoulders with the jump hook primarily. He also has a 10’-15’mid-range shot that is a plus feature not often shown, also an underrated passer. Needs to continue to improve his strength, ball handling, and ability to play on the perimeter. Coach Frank says:
Caleb was on my “players to watch” list last season after an impressive showing at the Nike combine against older competition at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in August 2014. His solid, cut frame stands out giving an indication of a physically superior athlete and he matched that appearance with a strong upper body able to seal and hold off bigger players and the excellent, quick footwork to defend the paint and deny entry passes. Caleb has an impressive array of back to the basket scoring moves, a long wingspan, great hands and explosive vertical leaping ability. A combination of strength, quickness and a great motor has helped him become an excellent rebounder, one of the best defensive rebounders in the 757! A term that best describes him is “sinewy strong”. A proven and effective paint presence on both sides of the ball, Caleb has demonstrated a smooth shooting stroke and very good shot consistency, especially effective to 15 feet. He has a more than adequate handle and can put the ball on the floor well enough to be effective. Given his tireless work ethic and great motor, it’s easy to be excited about his basketball future. He has advanced skills for a 2019 and very good court awareness. Plays the post out of necessity in high school but has proven in AAU he has the skill to be a productive wing. He is one of Virginia’s top 2019 prospects.
