HS Coach Evaluation:
Every team needs a coach on the floor, a quarterback if you will to run the team, look no further than Jarod. Right now he may be small in stature but if you see this kid on the floor you will see why our faces are light up with excitement for this kid. A fundamentally sound pure point guard that can break down a defense, create off the dribble and has a pure shooting touch from the outside. He is an excellent student and is a leader within the student body. At Kecoughtan we are hard on our point guards because we run a detailed, college style system that changes every year to cater and fit out personal. Jarod makes it easy with his ability to think like a coach and perform like a player. Wouldn’t trade him for anyone. He is gonna be really, really good! – Coach Willie Gause, Head Coach Kecoughtan HS Basketball
AAU Coach Evaluation:
Jarod’s ability to run a team is second to none! He has always been one of the smallest players on the court but plays with the biggest heart. With a growth spurt over the summer, Jarod is primed to have a big season for Coach G and the Kecoughtan Warriors. D1’s get ready! – Hampton Hoyas AAU
Coach Frank says:
Jarod is as complete a point guard as any 2018 I saw in Virginia this past summer. His maturity as a floor leader, basketball IQ, decision making, toughness, communication skills, poise and his overall presence is very impressive for any player let alone a sophomore! He is a crafty facilitator, has excellent court vision and elite passing skills. Jarod has sound ballhandling skills and can get to the basket and finish, is an excellent passer in traffic. Jarod couples solid play making skills with the ability to score from deep and in the middle game. He takes good shots and converts at a high percentage, has excellent range! Part of his impressive skills is a scrappy defensive prowess. Jarod can impact a game with his ball pressure, a high motor and his heady off ball defensive play. Look for Jarod Thorpe to be one of the state’s top 2018 talents at his position as his high school career progresses.
