AAU Coach Evaluation: There are a lot of words you can think of to describe someone’s abilities on and off the court! In the case of Shawn Evans I can narrow my selections down to 3. First word being “Scholar”. This is a very smart young man with a 3.0 GPA. It lets you know he thinks education first, which is very impressive. The second set of words can be conjoined together. “Volume – Scorer” Since I coached this kid in rec league he has always had the ability to score in bunches! One minute he has 6 points and you think you have him contained then out of nowhere he explodes. Scoring from anywhere on the floor. Unlimited range is what makes this kid deadly. Reminds me of James Hardin! Coach Ricks has done an excellent job playing to this kids strengths! This year he is averaging close to 26ppg. A 6’1 PG with excellent character, solid family background, educated on and off the floor, and can definitely put the ball in the basket. – Coach Lamar Claiborne, Chesapeake Thunder AAU

Coach Frank says: Shawn combines excellent range and shot making ability with a tight handle and the ability to get to the rim and score. He has a quick release, knows how to get open and excellent footwork as he receives the basketball. He plays with great balance, has the ability to quickly switch directions and attacks space aggressively and controlled, can play through contact. His ability to score in bunches at times overshadows his very good vision and passing ability. More of a scoring guard, Shawn understands how to use his dribble to move defenses and create passing angles, also a very good passer in traffic! Shawn defends the dribble exceptionally well and has excellent defensive footwork. He plays with great energy and confidence and is a threat anywhere on the court as he is savvy and has a high IQ on both ends. Shawn completes possessions on both ends, gets to the loose first, rebounds the basketball and is always around the ball defensively. He’s an energy giver and a player college coaches should have on their watch list.
