Mylyjael Poteat “Stock on the Rise”
There’s an old saying, “You can’t teach size.” Standing a sturdy 6’9 and 250 pounds, Mylyjael Poteat has seen his stock gradually climb the rankings and rightfully so. Since the beginning of August, Poteat has loss 25 pounds and continues to work on transforming his body. What you currently see is definitely not the finished product, but one thing is crystal clear. This young man is oozing with upside and potential. We’re talking about a fundamentally sound big that has excellent hands and footwork in the paint, not to mention he has an enormous wingspan that allows him to play even bigger than his 6’9 listed height.
During “Open Gym,” Poteat showcased several “go to” moves in the paint and the ability to use either hand. He has good touch and has the ability to step out and hit the midrange and even knock down an occasional 3-point shot. In addition, he is an effective passer out of the high post and will be the secondary option of setting up the offense. His best days are definitely ahead and could be an All Conference type player especially at the mid-major level. While Poteat has a bright future on the basketball court, he also sports an amazing 3.8 GPA at The Burlington School that still uses a “Seven Point” grading system. Poteat stated he has taken official visits to Wofford, Rice and will be taking an official visit to Penn this coming weekend. As far as the two remaining schools, Poteat says he is still wide open, but will look closely at the schools that has shown him the most attention in the recruiting process.
