Just yesterday First Baptist of Charleston junior Mikey Dukes received his eighth offer from the University of Arkansas. You see, Dukes is one of the more coveted running backs in the nation for the 2019 class. Already his offer sheet includes teams making him a priority across the ACC, SEC and Big 10 with more and more coming every day.
The unique part of this story is that Mikey Dukes is also a high major point guard with out of the region Power 5 programs like Kansas State, Boston College and more all over him. You see, Dukes lives and breathes basketball and we all know from experience it is hard to shake your first love.
Despite running for 2,500 yards and scoring 35 touchdowns his junior season alone, Dukes is also already a 1,000 point scorer in this his third year starting on the varsity team. It is his tenacity that really sets him apart. Having a high level running back as a power 5 point guard is nothing new to the Charleston area, Houston Texans wide receiver Bruce Ellington was a basketball recruit to the University of South Carolina.
While watching Dukes play basketball it is hard not to fall in love with what he does on the floor. He is an absolute floor general who makes everyone on the court better. After his performance at the 2017 version of Phenom’s Queen City Classic we wrote, “Dukes is a high level running back who already has numerous power-5 type offers. On the hardwood, is where his passion lies. He is a winner, a player that team rallies behind. Dukes is a tough 2-way guy, who is a terror on the ball. Offensively he has a natural pace as everything sets up He attacks the rim and showed ability in the middle game. Dukes will open eyes this summer, he is a winning PG.”
South Carolina’s 2019 point guard class is prodigious. There are no less than ten players who have already garnered multiple Division 1 offers. Dukes is the third ranked point guard and the seventh ranked player overall in South Carolina’s loaded junior class.
College Basketball Coaches, some sound advice, recruit this one.
Make sure you come out and watch Mikey Dukes at Phenom’s Low Country Showcase on January 20 at Porter Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina. They will against Aiken High School at 3PM.
