The John Wall Invitational has been a staple here in North Carolina over many years, and this year was no different with the amount of talent on display. Many familiar names even came back to the state of North Carolina, getting a little dose of home in front of so many familiar faces and fans.
One player that many were eager to see back in North Carolina was 2026 6’8 Latrell Allmond, who once played at The O’Neal School before heading to Virginia and now down in Florida at Petersburgh High School.
Petersburg had several big-time matchups, eventually going 1-2 at the event but fans had a great opportunity to watch a premier talent and matchup nightmare in Allmond. Already committed to Oklahoma State, Allmond continues to shine as a problem on the court, as he has adopted and developed his overall game in impressive fashion. We have seen the growth over the years, including at the NBPA Top 100 and now at Petersburg, where Allmond continues to be a force.
In three games at the John Wall, Allmond averaged 22 points and 9.3 rebounds for his team. He was able to showcase his fluidity and footwork as a big, operating well around the basket, scoring with touch and physicality, and being a relentless presence on the glass. What makes Allmond so unique is how he has adapted in being able to stretch the floor with confidence, creating off the bounce, and being comfortable inside and out. Allmond attacks well on drives, brings efficiency to the court, and brings value in several areas of the court as a versatile forward. Allmond looks to have another huge season before heading down to Stillwater, where he could be an immediate impact for the Cowboys.
What Phenom Hoops Has Said:
“Allmond already possesses great size for his age. He is very fluid on the court, moves well inside and out, and can be dangerous with his ability to step out and knock down shots with his mid-range shot and from three. You can also see that his IQ, his understanding of the game, and his leadership are already there. Allmond can score in a variety of ways, using wingspan to his advantage, showing confidence from multiple levels, displaying his ability to handle the ball, make smart decisions, and be a presence on both ends.”
“After watching Allmond play on Day 1, you would have to believe he is going to see a bit of an uptick in some rankings. He was really impressive with his overall impact on the court, as the 6’8 prospect was operating all over the court. Whether it was stretching the floor from behind the arc, scoring around the basket and operating in the paint, attacking the boards for second-chance opportunities, or making plays on the defensive end, Allmond did it all on Day 1 against some of the best out there.”
