Each year, it seems like undersized players emerge and continuously outperform any possible expectations. Chris Clemons was obviously the most noteworthy example of this, but many others have followed in his footsteps. Guys like Kody Shubert, DJ Thomas, Stephen Minor, Camian Shell, and Kadyn Dawkins have maintained the standard of being a dominant, undersized guard. However, Marc Raye is someone who should probably be included within that grouping. Right now, he’s one of the most under-the-radar prospects in the state. This can only truly be based on his lack of size, because Raye has an incredibly smart, savvy all-around identity and skillset.

Although Albemarle isn’t considered a major city in North Carolina, one would think that college coaches should still be battling to secure a player like Raye. In terms of on-court ability, he’s an extremely intelligent, unselfish point guard with the ability to score from all areas on the floor. Raye has a tight, crafty handle and protects the ball incredibly well, rarely having miscues or a lapse in judgment. He sees the entire floor and looks to set up others whenever possible, but will absolutely take advantage of easy scoring opportunities. Raye is deceptively quick and defends very well against opposing point guards, regardless of their size. He’s a capable rebounder and phenomenal transition player that simply knows how to make the correct play/decision at all times. Raye is a natural leader due to his IQ and assertiveness, which allows him to take over while still making the correct reads.
After shining as a star with Albemarle, Team Winston, and in various camps, it’s tough to find many knocks against Raye. He does everything so well, especially as a game manager, and understands how to dissect the opposition as effectively as anyone. His height is obviously going play a factor within his recruitment, but the college coach who secures the services of Raye will be more than satisfied in the long run.
