The Pirates of Lumberton High School will be looking a little different this upcoming season after losing several key seniors who led the way to a 22-4 overall record. With the loss of Christopher Hammonds, Amare Jones, Ayvan Redic, and others, Lumberton will be looking for others to step up and lead the way.
Though new names will be looking to make an impact, the Pirates could be looking towards 2027 Nate Lawson and 2027 Nick Lawson to lead the charge, from what we saw. Two 5’11 guards who combined for about 15 points per game last year both have a chance to take the next step and bring more leadership to the court with their overall play. They play well off each other, with both offering strong factors in their game that could help their team.
2027 Nick Lawson proved to be a dangerous perimeter threat with his ability to play off the ball, get to his spots, and knock down shots from beyond the arc. He wasted no time making an impact, connecting on multiple threes and showing the confidence and shot-making ability to stretch the floor for his team.
2027 Nate Lawson served as a catalyst for Lumberton with his ability to create offense and keep pressure on the defense. He attacked well in transition, got downhill to score on drives, and consistently put defenders in tough spots with his aggressive style of play. His ability to get to the line and make plays off the bounce gave his team another strong weapon on the court.
Lumberton may have lost a talented senior group, but the Lawson brothers look ready to help keep the Pirates moving in the right direction. With Nick’s shot-making and Nate’s ability to create and attack, the duo gives Lumberton a strong backcourt foundation heading into the season. If they continue to elevate their games and embrace bigger roles, they will be key pieces in Lumberton’s success this year.
