Class: 2029
School: Hickory
Lady Phenom continues to highlight players around the state of North Carolina, as we turn our focus to the western part of the state. We recently had a chance to watch a talented Hickory team in action on the Phenom Hoops platform, and a young player that certainly grabbed our attention was 2029 6’0 Ava Powell.
We are talking about a freshman who already possesses some highly intriguing factors in her game that will certainly grab the attention of D1 schools down the road. She already possesses great size for her age, and one can see that she has a nice skill set for the game, understanding how to operate and be effective on either side of the court.
Offensively, Powell does a great job in carving out space and being a factor down low early on, knowing how to position herself well in the post, score with touch, and be an effective piece on the glass. Defensively, she was very impactful with her ability to alter shots or just be a significant presence in the paint, making defenders think twice about attacking. We will be eager to see how she continues to expand and develop her game, but Powell is proving early on that she will be a name you will be hearing about in the Class of 2029 here in North Carolina.
