Lady Phenom continues to highlight players around the state of North Carolina, as we turn our focus to a guard who is part of the Class of 2028. We had a chance to watch 2028 Areona McKoy over the summer, as she quickly caught our attention with her play and dynamic ability. She can be an electric guard and has shown that this season, as she continues to earn high praise from our scouts. Over the summer, we had this to say about her game:
“One of the first players that caught my eye at the event was 2028 Areona McKoy. McKoy has a great feel for the game for her age; she was strong and demanded the ball in her hands, thrived out in transition and on the open floor, and did a great job in creating opportunities for herself. McKoy plays with a ton of composure, plays with tremendous energy, and really showcases her offensive capability. McKoy has a lot to her game that stands out quickly, and as she continues to develop, she could be a big-time talent to watch out for here in North Carolina.”
McKoy has only continued to play at a high level throughout her high school career, matching similar numbers to what she was able to produce as a freshman. She continues to be such a dynamic scorer on the court, thriving out in transition, creating and showing speed/pace, and plays with a ton of energy that college coaches will love down the road. McKoy presents such an intriguing feel for the game at her age, and she should only continue to develop her game more down the road, as she will be a name you hear about a lot more in the coming years. But the time is now to jump on board and learn more about her game, as she continues to impress overall as a prospect.
