South Garner will be a program hoping to make noise this season and they should be led by their junior guard in 2024 Jasmine Utley. Utley led the way last year and is hoping to step up as an even bigger leader this year. She also started off the season the right way as she earned her first offer. We spoke to her about her focus and earning the offer, as well as more about her game.
Preparing for the upcoming season:
“I am working out with my school team at South Garner. We are excited to see what this year has in for us. I’ve been focusing on what I need to work on specifically for this season to bring the best for our team, so we can be successful.”
Excitement about leading the team:
“My excitement for this upcoming season is building off what we did last year. We are a pretty new squad, and our chemistry has been growing and we have been performing well in practice; just ready to see it applied to the court in games.”
“I am helping lead the team with my court awareness and just applying some of the knowledge that I have learned from other coaches to my teammates. I feel like I have a big part of the team when it comes to being a leader. I just need to apply it in the right way to get us an awesome season with the help of my other teammates.”
Receiving her first offer:
“It was exciting. Coach called me and said he had some good news for me, then said he knew the potential I had and how I could go far with basketball and to keep pushing. Then after that, he said he wanted to offer me to come play at Cairn University.”
