Keith Matthews, part of the 2017 recruiting class, earned his first offer last week from Coastal Carolina, but it might not be the only offer that could be coming his way down the road.

The 6’6 prospect from Blythewood High School seemed happy about the offer and is excited to learn more about Coastal Carolina, as he has worked hard for his first.

“It’s amazing, I worked so hard to get it and my hard work is finally paying off,” Matthews said. Matthews heard the news from his high school coach late in the week, as Coastal Carolina is impressed with the lengthy guard that could provide mismatches down the road.

“The staff said that I was a big guard and that I could handle the ball very well and that I was aggressive and then he told me coach that I had an offer from Coastal.”

Matthews hasn’t had a chance to meet the team yet but he is excited to see what he can learn about the Chanticleers.

“I’ve heard pretty good things about the program and they are moving up to the Sub Belt conference. But I haven’t gotten a chance to meet the team yet.”

Coastal Carolina is the first but he has been hearing heavy interest from programs like East Carolina, Winthrop, South Alabama, USC Upstate, and Presbyterian. Phenom Hoops has been well aware of Matthews’ talent and have recently noticed that this true shooting guard has really developed his game in several areas such as shooting, his handles, and vision.

Matthews has focused his summer to the weight room and several specific areas of his game according to him.

“I’ve been working on getting more athletic, staying in the weight room to get stronger, getting my handles more tight, and getting a lot of shots up to get my jump shot more consistent.”
