July’s Top Performances
Shooting Guards
By Jamie Shaw
What a July it was, Phenom Hoops’ was involved in some of the greatest events across the country. Over 650 college coaches showed up to view and dozens of offers were handed out to top performers. The word has spread as hundreds of teams, carrying thousands of players, came from 20 different states to perform on the nation’s leading grassroots exposure platform.
In this series we will recount some of the top performances, by position, we saw throughout July…Take note and enjoy
6’6” 2018 Isaiah Bigelow Turns Out in Game 1
Team Felton Elite (NC) – Phenom’s Southern Jam
We hadn’t heard much from Bigelow throughout July, which is crazy. He is a deft scorer with great size from the shooting guard position. Bigelow came out of the games to score 26 points on only 3 misses, it was an incredibly efficient scoring barrage, but one that seemed to be more of the norm throughout the weekend. Because of his play at this one event Charlotte, Norfolk St, Radford, Gardner Webb, NC A&T and UT Chattanooga all offered, we expect many more to come.
6’4” 2018 Kyler Edwards Starts Off with a Cool 29
Team Boost (TX) – Summer Havoc Live
Edwards came out of the Summer Havoc gates swinging. He had Butler, Texas, Houston, St John’s UMass, Georgia Tech, Boston College and more in the stands and went for an efficient 29 points. He was like he didn’t even break a sweat. Edwards went on to average 20+ for the event, but also showcased the ability to run a team with the ball in his hands. Another player who is under valued on the national level, but one who will have a very good college career.
6’3” 2019 Caleb Mills Goes for a Smooth 29
Team Vision (NC) 17s – Phenom’s Southern Jam
Mills is an effortless bucket getter who does it in a smooth manner. This game, was against the Tennessee Bobcats in his 3rd game of the event. He had been getting his numbers all July, but there was something about this one. Mills had built a reputation, but with head coaches in the stands here Mills did not disappoint. He showcased range off the catch, smooth ability in the mid range and the ability to break his man down in the half court and get to the rack. It was the full arsenal, and it was easy for him. After his showings in Phenom Hoops’ July he now carries offers from Appalachian St, Winthrop, High Point, Western Carolina and Liberty that list will grow immensely.
6’5” 2018 Coby White is an Elite Shooting Guard
Team CP3 (NC) – Phenom’s Stay Positive
After watching him perform in this event we felt very comfortable saying that Coby White would end up a draft NBA player. The game, the scoring, everything just comes too easy to him and it does not matter his opponent. UNC first saw White at a Phenom Hoops event, they locked him up quickly, and rightfully so…White is a special talent. There was not a specific game that stands over the rest, but it was a consistent accumulation of 30+ that just leaves you in awe.
6’7” 2018 Landers Nolley is a Top 30 Player
Team Loaded (NC) – Phenom’s Champion Showcase
The title of this storyline is simply put, yet we say it conservatively. Somehow he is still not getting his due nationally just yet, however it is apparent that Lander’s Nolley is among the nation’s best shooting guards. His calling card is his jump shot, he has deep range on it and is confident and consistent off both the catch and the dribble. He carries great size and plays very similarly to how Devin Booker played at the same stage. July has taken his recruitment to another level, he is one that should be on everyone’s board.
