Joshua is an elite athlete who brings great energy on both ends of the floor; he’s a “pit bull”! A “true” point guard with a great feel for the game, Joshua can score in bunches if needed and can run the offense and distribute the basketball. He is a crafty facilitator who shows the ability to make those around him better. Does a great job controlling the pace of the game and getting the ball to his scorers where they can be effective. He has great vision and passing skills, an excellent sense of where his teammates are at all times. He is confident and creative enough to know how to distribute the ball in both drive and dish situations, in transition where his end to end speed is jaw dropping, or in the half court within the offense. He has complete command and control of the basketball in terms of handling and running a team as he displays great maturity and an amazingly confident demeanor on the court. Joshua is a dazzling playmaker utilizing his ball handling wizardry and explosive quickness to wreak havoc on opposing defenses. He has a great burst attacking space and can turn the corner whenever he wants to. He’s explosive, and makes it almost impossible for his defender to stay in front of him in a one on one situation. Has a remarkable ability to change direction on a dime, making him virtually unguardable and downright deadly in the open court. His blow by speed allows him to get past defenders off the dribble seamlessly. He has the ability to finish at the rim even against opposing bigs demonstrating excellent body control in traffic. Joshua possesses excellent one on one skills with a quick handle and quick feet to compliment an impressive array of breakdown dribble moves to include a nasty crossover dribble. He can pull up off the dribble and knock down the jumper getting excellent elevation and a high, smooth release making it difficult for defenders to block. His abrupt stops on his pull up jumper help him create separation and he executes this move effortlessly. He is really solid making shots off the dribble. He has three point range on the jumper and can fill it up from all levels displaying excellent shooting mechanics and a quick release. He is near-automatic with his feet set! Joshua is really special on the defensive end! If he’s guarding you it’s gonna be the longest day of your life! Joshua is so explosive, even laterally and displays excellent defensive mechanics. He stays low, keeps his hands and feet active, will harass you baseline to baseline and flat out take the ball from you! One of the better on ball defenders I’ve seen all season. He anticipates well making a lot of good reads, is seemingly in the right place most often at the right time, the result of a high basketball IQ and great quickness. He turns deflections into breakaway layups! Here’s what I really like though, he is always talking! Joshua has been a difference maker in many games for Boo Williams EYBL this season making plays on both ends of the floor. His steady leadership and contagious energy are evident every time he takes the floor. I saw a lot of talented guards last weekend in EYBL Session 4 at Boo Williams and Joshua Wallace ranks right up there among the best! He’s got a big time basketball future!

Boo Williams EYBL Assistant Coach Tony Rutland on Joshua Wallace: “Josh is already a well polished guard. Similar to Terry Rozier he waits his turn, stays ready and then shines with the best of them when his number is called. He is very crafty both on defense and on offense. He is a coach’s dream. He doesn’t turn the ball over and is a capable lead guard who runs the show the way the coach wants it done. Sometimes a little too unselfish, he is a very good scorer as well as a strong, pass first guard. I’m really looking forward to working with him and we’re fortunate to have him on the team”. Tony Rutland starred at (Hampton VA) Bethel High School before a brilliant collegiate career at Wake Forest University where he earned All ACC honors while helping the likes of Tim Duncan and Randolph Childress lead the Demon Deacons to a pair of ACC titles and two deep runs into the NCAA Tournament. Rutland had a seven year pro career overseas and also spent time in the NBA Development League.
