Things change quickly on the recruiting circuit. For 6’10 ’19 John Michael Mulloy of Carmel High School (Carmel, Indiana), it didn’t take long to figure out where he wanted to attend college. Shortly after receiving an offer from Butler, Mulloy pulled the trigger and gave Coach LaVall Jordan their first commitment for the new staff. In our August 24th article, we stated “Big time upside is now here,” and the Butler staff thoughts dovetailed exactly with our assessment of the young and talented center.

First of all, we’re talking about a mobile/fluid 6’10 player that exerts maximum energy on the court. He is extremely long and athletic with a matching skill set. What Mulloy lacks at the current time is strength, which is often true of many young players, especially at his size and position. For Mulloy, it came down to fit, opportunity and proximity. Mulloy sports an amazing 3.96 unweighted GPA and the gifted student athlete realized he didn’t need to look further. Butler provided the opportunity and this was too good to pass up.

For Butler fans, they may not know a great deal about John Michael Mulloy. However, that will change sooner rather than later. Mulloy is simply a long-term prospect that has the physical attributes and intangibles that will make him a coveted player in the Big East. While Mulloy only sported offers from Miami of Ohio, Tulsa, Toledo, and Eastern Illinois; it was Butler who realized his recruitment was about to explode. It was just a matter of time and give Butler credit for getting a “future” big time prospect. They simply beat the competition before his stock took off!
