It’s common knowledge that production is one of the most surefire ways to stand out in athletics. The greater an individual’s statistical makeup, the more likely they are to get noticed. This rings especially true in youth basketball, often amongst middle school players. Some guys pan out over time while others merely benefit from being more physically advanced than their peers. When you consider all the tools and appealing qualities that Jeremiah Thomas possesses, it seems almost silly to think he wouldn’t be a highly productive player upon entering high school. Now, nearly a year later, the athletic, shot-making wing continues to impress in every possible setting…
At 6-foot-5, Thomas already checks so many boxes in terms of appeal. He knows how to create his own shot and apply scoring pressure in a variety of different ways. Thomas knocks down jumpers off the catch, but also consistently applies pressure off the bounce. He attacks the basket with force and regularity, constantly looking to finish above the rim or through contact, but also reliably converts pull-ups within a few dribbles. Thomas is a capable playmaker whose size and athleticism allow him to create matchup problems for all types of opponents.
On the other end, he’s still just beginning to harness his long-term upside. Thomas is a switchable defender who possesses excellent length, strength, and fluidity. He has the necessary physical tools to guard multiple positions up and down a lineup. Thomas is a quality rebounder for his size/position and knows how to effectively push the break in transition. Given everything he’s already showcased, it’s easy to envision him blossoming into a real matchup problem for opponents. It’ll also be fascinating to see where Thomas ultimately surfaces for high school next season, as he’ll be an immediate-impact player wherever he goes.
