Phenom Hoops recently covered a great game between New Bern and West Carteret (Click Here), as New Bern secured a nail-biting 68-66 win.  But one of the main reasons for tuning in and checking this game out was to learn more about a potential rising star out east in 2029 6’5 Aj Scott from New Bern High School.

Scott may be a new name for some, but not for Phenom Hoops; in fact, introduced him as a seventh grader back in 2024, where we had this to say:

“At his age, Scott was able to make his impact felt in a variety of ways, whether it was scoring, rebounding, being a defensive presence, or facilitating. With his family background in basketball, it was clear that Scott was a bit ahead of the curve, understanding how to create and be effective, and showcase how fluid he can operate from a variety of levels. He showed tremendous confidence in attacking in transition, using his length to his clear advantage as well as his athleticism. Scot,t on multiple occasions, finished with a throwdown as a rising 8th grader, as well as finishing with touch off the dribble. However, he was also confident in stepping outside from behind the arc as well as using his length to alter shots defensively.”

Fast-forward to today, Scott has only continued to improve and build on his game, as well as grow physically as a prospect. Scott, who is now listed at 6’5, is one who plays with a tremendous feel for a player his age, understanding the game, his ability, and where he can impact the game. Watching the game this week, Scott continues to shine with his ability to score, as he has exceptional length and athleticism that give him certain advantages. Scott does a great job in attacking off the dribble and getting to the rim, showing bounce at the rim as well as being able to finish or get to the line. It could be seen over and over, as he wasn’t shy about his ability to attack the defense. And when you watch him and potential, there is room for growth with his perimeter game and consistency but the fluidity, release, and feel are all there, so I expect that part of his game to continue to develop and grow.

Again, we are talking about a freshman who is leading his team in scoring already this season. Scott has the factors that you like as a young prospect and the potential that gets you excited.  He already should be on radars for man,y but he has a chance to be one of the next best prospects coming out of North Carolina, so the time is now to learn his name.
