On a brisk Wednesday night, Phenom Hoops had the treat and pleasure in heading to the Spectrum Center to cover the Charlotte Hornets, as they welcomed in the Memphis Grizzlies.  Both teams loaded with young talent and a few rising stars, this had the making of a very intriguing matchup and that it was.

But let's dive into the full game breakdown, along with several other storylines from the night.

Start of Game

Both teams got out to a hot start but eventually, they both settled down.' Memphis did much of their damage down low in the paint, an area where they have been able to dominate most of the season.' They held a 20-8 advantage vs. the Hornets early on in the paint, but the outside shooting for Charlotte was able to capitalize on opportunities as well, as they went 5-for-10 from three to start the game.

End of First: Charlotte 29 ' Memphis 26

Malik Monk started out strong for the Hornets, attacking the rim and finishing strong. Terry Rozier was continuing to find a rhythm on the court, leading all scorers with 18 points (4-for-5 from 3) in the first half.' Memphis had their guards step up, as Ja Morant continued to find his teammates open, as well as putting on some sensational plays scoring-wise as well.' Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jonas Valanciunas combined for 23 first-half points for the Grizzlies, as they continued to take advantage of opportunities in the paint.

Halftime: Charlotte 64 ' Memphis 63

Shots continued to fall for the Hornets, as Graham and Rozier continued their attack against the Grizzlies.' Simply saying, it seemed that no one could stop them scoring or dishing, as those two made play after play.' They read defenses, made tremendous reads, and shots fell all over the court.' It helped Charlotte grab a double-digit late in the third quarter.' However, Marko Guduric came alive late in the third quarter, scoring multiple times and bring the Grizzlies right back into game heading into the 4th quarter.

End of Third: Charlotte 96 ' Memphis 94

The Hornets allowed Memphis to get back in late in the third and sloppy play and playing one-man basketball at times hurt them in the fourth early, as the Grizzlies stepped on the defensive end, created turnovers into points, and separated themselves for much of the fourth quarter. ''The shots just didn’t fall but the Hornets did make a late run to tie it up at 117 with 20 seconds to go, as Graham knocked down a tough three.' That is when Ja Morant stepped up, attacked the rim and finished a tough lay-in to seal the deal.

Final: Memphis 119 ' Charlotte 117
