Late in February NC State offered Kris Monroe. It was just after Monroe posted a 27 point and 9 rebound performance that Mark Gottfried was in the stands to see. This performance, this ACC offer, is just the beginning for many great performances and big time offers for Monroe.

Monroe has been coming to NC Phenom 150 camps for many years. He has always been big and able to play on the perimeter, so the potential was undeniable. During his final season at South Granville High School Monroe averaged a robust 22 points and 11 boards per game.

After his performance in the NC Phenom 150 camp, his freshman year, here is what we wrote about Monroe, “The first word that comes to mind in describing Kristopher is potential. Standing a firm and strong 6’5, he has the ability to play multiple positions and can score from all levels on the court. In our viewing, Kristopher was clicking on all cylinders from the perimeter. He averaged 13 PPG and two 3-pointers in all three camp games. Coach Lindell echoed by sentiments, “Kristopher has tremendous unrealized potential. He has a great frame and even more potential to grow in the game of basketball. When he understands that he can be a complete player inside and out, he will become dominant.” The next step for Kristopher is to continue working on his game and realizing his long range upside and potential. The sky’s the limit for him!”

This year, Monroe transferred to St David’s School in Raleigh, NC. It was here that he really took a step forward. He led St David’s to the 2A NCISAA state Final Four and with the uptick in competition he still averaged 20 points, shot 40% from beyond the arc, 9 boards, and 2 steals per game.

Monroe stands at a very sturdy 6’7”. At this size he is a true shooting guard. He handles, defends, rebounds, and scores from all 3 levels. For his high school team, he plays the point through center positions. His versatility is undeniable and his pace is high level, he is much more of a skilled player than athlete (and those are the guys whose skill sets translate).

Along with NC State, Monroe carries offers from Charlotte and UNC Greensboro. He is actively being recruited by most of the ACC, Big East, and A10. Expect this interest to turn into offers as soon as the Spring Hoops Fest LIVE on April 16-17.
