Next week, Phenom Hoops is set to host our Capital City Jam in Columbia, South Carolina, which is going to feature eight very noteworthy programs. There are going to be 20+ Division I prospects in the building, but the First Baptist v. Hunter Kinard Tyler matchup could arguably end up as the most intense battle of the day. The First Baptist backcourt duo of Joseph Powell and Mikey Dukes is going to bother opponents all year, so it'll be exciting to see how Coker-commit Marlowe Gilmore Jr. handles the pressure.

Folks may remember Gilmore from the summer season, where he showed flashes of dominance with the Columbia Hoyas. The long, rangy, 6-foot-6 forward is a matchup problem for most opponents, given his blend of size and athleticism. His defensive versatility is very valuable, as he's able to guard three to four positions comfortably at this level. That being said, Gilmore has made numerous strides to add polish and become a more reliable offensive threat over the recent months. He isn't going to force the action or overdo things on the court. Gilmore displays a quality understanding of his skillset and knows how to maximize his presence on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he's able to rip-through and get to the basket with relative ease, especially as his handle has improved, but can also knock down the occasional perimeter jumper when necessary. His vision and passing are definitely his most overlooked attributes, which allow him to catch opponents by surprise on a regular basis. Gilmore is a pretty smart player that embraces his role and outworks his assignment on nearly every possession. His ability to grab defensive rebounds and push the break is a huge asset, as it allows him to highlight his passing and athleticism on a frequent basis. You'll want to be in the stands for this event, as it's likely that Gilmore will give the fans something they've never seen.
