The Whirlies of Grimsley finished the season with a 7-16 overall record, but they are looking to turn that around this upcoming season. To do just that, they will depend on a talented duo to shine and on the roster to bring depth. But the combination of Kingston Carmichael and Jayden Velez will be two big factors for the Whirlies this season, as they showed at the Phenom Team Camp.

2027 6’4 Kingston Carmichael

Carmichael will be a key piece in a variety of ways for this year’s team at Grimsley. Not only will his leadership and experience be valuable, but Carmichael will look to be a key offensive producer.  The 6’4 prospect continues to find ways to be an effective scorer off the bounce, to play well off the ball, to knock down shots, and to play well within the offense. He shines as a prospect that can score and be effective in a variety of areas and situations, and this year should allow him to showcase that in a big way as one of the clear go-to options.

2029 6’5 Jayden Velez

Velez is another prospect I would keep a strong eye on, as he has been trending as a premier talent in the class of 2029. Velez has a lot of tools and factors that stand out, standing at 6’5 and bringing tremendous positional size as well as a strong scoring factor. He is confident using that size to his advantage to attack downhill and get to the rim, but also does a great job rising over defenders from outside. Velez plays with a ton of confidence, with the ability to hurt you from deep or at the rim.  A talented scorer who should thrive.

If Grimsley is going to take a step forward this season, it will start with the production and leadership of Carmichael and Velez. Both players bring size, scoring ability, and the talent to impact the game in a variety of ways, giving the Whirlies a strong foundation to build around. With those two leading the way and others stepping into bigger roles, Grimsley has the pieces to be a much more dangerous team this season.
