We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Landon Johnson of High Point Christian.

We’ve seen Johnson numerous times over the last calendar year, including at our All-American camp, where we stated, “Finishing up, we look at a player that arguably stood out as the most intriguing long-term prospect on this team, Landon Johnson. He’s a long, sturdy, fluid post prospect with an active presence on both ends of the floor. Johnson is a capable scorer out of the post, possessing various moves and the necessary strength/athleticism to finish through contact or above the rim. He rebounds at a consistent rate, runs the floor well in transition, and shows the ability to space the floor efficiently—especially for his position. Johnson also has great tools as a rim-protector, and should steadily improve as a defensive anchor. Next in his development process is working on being detached from officiating and general mistakes, as it would strengthen his on-court mentality. Coach Rich on Johnson: “Lando has tons of potential. He’s long, tall, and understands how to work hard. He runs the floor well in transition and passes nicely in the open floor. Lando will benefit from additional speed and skill work. He will be a guy to watch as he gets older.” Johnson has a ton of appeal, especially given his current trajectory, and should be a player to monitor going forward.”
Going forward, Johnson’s development will absolutely be worth monitoring. He’s already a big, physical post prospect with nice mobility, an active motor, and the ability to impact the game on either side of the ball. He’s a capable finisher and floor-spacing option with rebounding instincts and the understanding of how to properly fill the lane in transition. Johnson alters shots at a solid rate and shows the necessary toughness to effectively anchor a defense within the paint. He also shows flashes as a passer and cutter. Although already fairly productive, Johnson should only continue to progress as he taps into his upside over these next few years for the Cougars.
