We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Drew Johnson of Jordan High School.

We’ve seen Johnson countless times, most recently stating, The Team Push organization has a lot of enticing prospects, and Johnson is as appeal as anyone. He’s young, but incredibly smart and crafty as a floor general. Johnson displays a quick first step and clear willingness to set up others, but also takes advantage of easy offensive opportunities and scores the ball with consistency from all levels. He’s a sharp defender with great anticipation, unselfishness, and overall poise. Johnson is simply a reliable point guard.” Which was followed by, “We’ve seen Johnson as much as any player throughout the years, especially at camps as a young, crafty, up-and-coming floor general. Fast-forward to now, and Johnson has only continued to expound upon his previously enticing trajectory. He’s so smart, unselfish, and offers excellent offensive balance from the point guard position. Johnson is a dynamic ball-handler with the blend of quickness and craftiness to reliably break down opponents, touch the paint at will, and make the correct read on a consistent basis. He’s a tough defender, great open floor player, and efficient scorer from all levels. Johnson has never failed to impress and, as a modern-day point guard, should only continue to turn heads.”

Although Johnson flew somewhat under the radar during the last high school season, it was more due to a surplus of veteran talent on varsity as opposed to his on-court abilities. In all honesty, Johnson probably would’ve been the primary floor general for majority of programs across North Carolina. However, the repetitions and overall playing experience will aid his long-term growth much more than the alternate. Johnson is a smart, crafty, dynamic point guard prospect with excellent vision and the ability to score from all levels. He’s a natural leader who effortlessly breaks down defenders, touches the paint at a high volume, and makes plays for himself and others quite regularly. Add in his scrappy defensive presence, and Johnson is already a very enticing prospect. He will certainly be a player to monitor going forward.
