We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Miles Leaks of Piedmont.
We’ve seen Leaks numerous times this season, stating, “While his entry on this list shouldn’t require any explanation, Miles Leaks was a major difference-maker for his incredibly talented Team United squad. He’s a smart, tough, high-motor guard prospect who stands out as an elite three-point shooter. Leaks can handle the ball, set up others, and create as needed, but genuinely knows how to thrive as an off-ball threat. He’s an exceptionally reliable spot-up option who moves well without the ball, sets up before the catch, and knocks down jumpers at a very high percentage from distance. Leaks also attacks closeouts well and can access midrange pull-ups whenever needed. He’s a scrappy, active on-ball defender with the quickness and instincts to shut down his assignment and force turnovers at a nice rate. Leaks might not be the biggest or flashiest player on the roster, but his value definitely factors in to the success of this group. Expect him to continue turning heads going forward.”
Although his three-point shooting will receive a lot of the headlines, Leaks has simply proven to be a steady, reliable piece within the bigger picture. He’s smart, scrappy and understands how to excel within his role on either end of the floor. Leaks can handle the ball and initiate the offense as needed, but is arguably better when slotted as an off-ball threat. He also doesn’t look to force the action and makes quality decisions when looking to create. Leaks is a rugged defender with the ability to mirror opposing guards, force turnovers, and make an impact in transition. He displays somewhat of a clam, quiet demeanor, but Leaks clearly has the tools to be a player worth noting over the coming years.
