We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events over the past few years but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Xavion Bennett of Goose Creek and TMP Elite.

We’ve seen Bennett in numerous settings, including at our SC Top 80, where we stated, Continuing onto a player that was arguably the main glue-guy of this team during camp, Xavion Bennett. He’s a long, smart two-way forward prospect with a terrific motor and the ability to apply excellent rebounding pressure on both ends of the floor. Bennett knows how to move without the ball and find open space, both when hunting rebounds and as an off-ball cutter. He’s a capable perimeter shooter with touch around the basket, but never forces the action and defers to open teammates whenever available. Bennett is also a quality defender that can switch across either forward position quite effectively. Next in his development process is working on becoming a craftier ball-handler, as it would make him even tougher for opponents to contain. Coach Staley on Bennett: “Xavion has nice length and a very good feel for the game. He has a nice shooting touch and rebounds the ball well. Xavion maintained a positive attitude and accepted coaching well throughout the day.” Bennett did a lot of things well at camp and should have a very productive upcoming season for Goose Creek.

Last season, Bennett was an integral part of Goose Creek’s success through his motor and overall two-way presence. He understands how to affect various facets of the game without needing to force the action. Bennett is a smart, steady player with length, toughness, and quality defensive instincts. He’s a useful athlete with great rebounding and finishing ability, but also looks to set up others whenever possible. Bennett should already be on the radar for various college programs, and could become a priority for scholarship-level coaches throughout the next calendar year.
