What a start to the season for Gaston Christian, as they have made an impressive early statement with two strong wins over Greensboro Day and The Burlington School. Gaston Christian, led by Coach Chris Duhon, was able to take down the Bengals of Greensboro Day at home to start the season, a team nationally ranked by MaxPreps and coming in as the No. 1 team in the state according to Phenom Hoops.
And then to back it up, Gaston Christian took on a very good Burlington School at the Carmel Christian Tip-Off this past weekend and won impressively.
If questions were coming into the season about the Eagles, they may have answered them quickly with two strong performances. But when you rewind the tape and look back at the Fall League, the Eagles of Gaston Christian proved that they were ready to make a statement this season. At the Hoop State Fall League, this was a team that competed, showcased strong guard play, and had others step up in understanding what they could offer and their role.
2026 Cameron Newman has embraced once again in helping lead the way and get everyone involved, showing that he is the floor general and playmaker to get everyone going as well as himself. 2027 Jaishawn Woods has stepped up big time early on, showcasing a confident shooting stroke and being able to be an effective scoring option that competes. 2028 Brayden Milner is back and brings physicality, athleticism, and size to the table, as he has been a big piece to the team’s success. 2027 Jeremy Duhon is a shot maker, but also one who has added more to his overall game in being able to mix it up as well as play with confidence. And then you have others, such as 2028 Jordan Makoi, 2027 Dillon Joy, 2027 Kumbai Makoi, and others who have all provided strong minutes for this team early on, but also understand their role.
It is still very early in the season, but the team that has made the loudest statement to start has been the Eagles of Gaston Christian. And it seems like they won’t be going away any time soon, as they clearly will be in the mixture all season long in hopes of making a run for a title.
