With the summer ending and we start looking into the upcoming high school season, Phenom Hoops is also looking at players that college coaches need to take a bit more seriously. And one player that came to mind is 2027 6’6 James Minlend from Concord Academy.
Minlend is a classic prospect that you can see has talent for the game, but also a ton of potential still to come. Standing at 6’6 and now holding the keys for the season at Concord Academy, Minlend has a chance to truly shine, much like he did this summer when watching him. Our very own, Jeff Bendel, recently spoke about Minlend and his game:
“Although he’s made steady strides within his progression, it feels like Minlend is poised to make the next leap as a prospect. His physical makeup, blossoming skillset, and growing confidence should be a real concern for opponents. Minlend was already a matchup problem at his size, but his increased assertiveness really allows him to take over a game if he desires. The well-rounded wing does a little bit of everything. He’s shown improvement as a creator and playmaker, and still has considerable upside defensively. Though he was already a key piece for Concord Academy, the departures of Jake Benham, Gray Madeira, Alek Kornacki, and Icare Bakadisula (who accounted for 26.5 shots per game) should open up even more opportunities for Minlend. Expect him to become a priority for Division I programs.”
Minlend’s game is highly intriguing, again, with what he has shown and what he could ultimately become. He continues to add more to his game, gain confidence overall, and also get stronger, all of which are helping him showcase his full potential. Minlend has a well-rounded game that allows him to attack off the bounce, use his length and athleticism to his advantage, showcase his impact outside his offensive game, especially on defense and on the boards, and his ability to be a multi-level scorer. Again though, Minlend is one that still has room for growth and development, which makes him only a more interesting prospect. With what he has shown this summer overall, Minlend has a chance to truly shine as the go-to option at Concord Academy and also earn more attention from college programs.
