What Banks is Today
Banks style fits today’s game expertly being one of the premier 2-way wings in North Carolina. What we mean by his being a 2-way wing is that his athleticism and motor allow him to defend multiple positions along the perimeter, but he is also able to create offense both off the bounce of score it off the catch. Banks is long and explosive and he plays with a non-stop motor, making winning plays on both ends of the floor. He goes about his business in a no-nonsense fashion, no flash, all substance We feel he is vastly underrated on the national scene, having continuously put up numbers against top competition, he has earned his way to being a consensus Top 150 type prospect.
What Banks’ Coaches Said
AAU Program Director Ced Canty: “Josh Banks ranks in the upper echelon of players who have played for Team United. A very well rounded player and a great young man. Josh was consistent for us every year he suited up and did whatever we needed him to do on and off the court. Very happy this game of basketball has paid off for him to go this far! You will hear his name for a very long time!”
What Banks Said
“They are a fast-paced style of play and like to get the ball out and run. That (style) is what I am used to in high school, so it won’t be difficult transitioning into college. Mainly, I chose VCU because of the relationship I was able to form with the coaches and players. They made me feel welcomed and I felt comfortable calling VCU my home.”
What We Said
Banks is someone who you could tell immediately, from the first time watching him, that he had something different in his bag. Our first glimpse of him was at Phenom’s Inaugural Queen City Showcase in April of 2017, after Banks just came off his freshman campaign, Jeff Bendel wrote, “Josh Banks has proven to be a quality all-around wing with athleticism, IQ and a high motor. He has upside for days; one who could be a dangerous two-way prospect given his length and speed.”
Banks continued on his way, through his high school career so far Banks has scored 947 career points amassing a 63-19 record through his three varsity years. After his standout performance at the prestigious 2019 North Carolina Top 80 Jamie Shaw wrote, “Josh Banks may be the best pure scorer in North Carolina. Just so smooth, always in the right spot. He’s athletic with range and handle, just all the tools. He showed up at the NC Top 80 and wrecked the day. Expect a massive jump in the rankings an college coaches should be stumbling over themselves to get him. A great young man and an awesome personality.” After the same camp, Rick Lewis went on to say, ” Banks is 6’4”, athletic and quite the shot maker. He plays with great energy and has the ability to get to his spots and get his shot with minimal wasted movements. His skill set is very translatable and expect him to get a major recruiting and rankings boost moving forward. What an event for Banks, as he won the Mr. Defense award.“
