Team: Providence Day

As of 1/29/26: Overall record sits at 17-5/ 5-0 in Conference Play

As the high school basketball season across North Carolina moves deeper into its schedule, teams are beginning to separate themselves and establish identities as true contenders. Wins are stacking up, momentum is building, and programs around the state are making noise with their sights set on strong playoff runs. Phenom Hoops is taking a closer look at several teams putting together impressive seasons, highlighting the talent, depth, and consistency that continue to shape the high school basketball landscape across North Carolina.

The old saying goes… “It isn’t how you start, it is how you finish.” That can be said about Providence Day this season, as this is a program that has not only challenged itself but is finding ways to overcome. The Chargers started the season 0-4 the season, putting themselves up against four premier teams in the state in Davidson Day, Gaston Christian, Christ School, and Concord Academy. Then, Providence Day was able to reel off seven straight wins before falling to Oak Hill. And now, they are on a 10-game win streak and counting, as the Chargers now sit at 17-5 on the season.

Providence Day embraced its schedule; they wanted to challenge themselves as a team and are now using those early season lessons to prepare themselves down the stretch and into the playoffs. And it isn’t like this team isn’t talented, as this is a roster that has plenty of next-level talent. But it was a matter of coming together and figuring it out, as they have won 17 of their last 18 games.

Players like 2027 Zeke Battier, 2027 Columbus Parker, and 2027 Dylan Bradley present a strong nucleus, bringing strong and gritty guards to the court along with a versatile forward that can allow this team to operate inside and out. And then you have senior leadership with 2026 Osvaldo Haynes and 2026 Aidan Scruitsky.  Haynes does a great job in controlling the paint, bringing a presence offensively inside, and understanding what it takes to lead.  Scruitsky is a weapon with his 6’4 frame and ability to knock down shots from a variety of levels. Lastly, you have other prospects that have been able to step up and help this team, allowing the Chargers to play with depth.

Now, Providence Day looks every bit like a team no one wants to see when postseason play arrives. The Chargers have turned early adversity into fuel, building confidence, chemistry, and a winning mentality that continues to show each time they take the floor. With a balanced roster, experienced leadership, and multiple scoring options, Providence Day has positioned itself as a legitimate contender down the stretch. If their current trajectory is any indication, this is a group that is peaking at the right time — and one that could make serious noise when it matters most.
