Player: Paul Cauthen Jr.
Class: 2028
School: Statesville

The Greyhounds of Statesville was one of several teams to come and participate in the Hoop State Fall League by Phenom Hoops, and it allowed us to learn a few new names to check out.  There are plenty of freshmen that we are eager to learn more about in the coming months, but one young guard that has impressed us early on has been 2028 Paul Cauthen Jr. at Statesville High School.

After coming off a 13-13 overall record last year, Statesville is hoping to continue to trend in the right direction and with Cauthen, they have a good young piece to build upon in the coming years.  Watching him operate on the court, you can see the flashes in his game that you have like as a young prospect. He shows tremendous quickness and shiftiness with the ball in his hands, along with a strong change burst to help get around and past defenders. Cauthen is assertive early on in being that playmaker, dishing it and finding open teammates, pushing in transition, and being able to score effectively off the dribble.

But remember, this isn’t the first time we have seen Cauthen in action, as he shined as well last year at our Exposure Camp where we had this to say:

“Cauthen was one that really caught the attention of our scouts with his play, and then to learn that he will still be in middle school made of even more excited. You could see that Cauthen is one who understands and has a strong feel for the game at a young age. Cauthen showed flashes all throughout, attacking and being assertive, scoring off the dribble, finishing through defenders, and applying consistent pressure downhill and scoring.”

Now with Statesville, Cauthen is a very intriguing guard to put on your watch list and he shows that he is ready to play at a high level as a freshman this upcoming season.
