6’1 Josh Price is the son of legendary Georgia Tech and NBA star Mark Price. This past season, Josh averaged 5.0 PPG for Charlotte Christian and recently joined the Charlotte Aces travel basketball team. While Josh put up “modest” scoring numbers at the Phenom Hoop State Challenge, we were impressed with his basketball IQ, court awareness and overall knowledge of the game.
Josh comes from a great basketball family. His father Mark Price is now the head coach of the Charlotte 49ers and a former NBA player that spent 12 seasons in the league. While in the NBA, Mark Price was known as one of the league’s best shooters. He finished his career shooting over 40% from the 3-point line and 90% from the free throw line. Before entering the NBA, Mark Price was a two-time All American, four-time All ACC player and was named the ACC MVP for the 1984-85 season. Both Georgia Tech and the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA retired his jersey.
Josh’s older brother Hudson is currently 6’7 and originally played basketball at TCU before transferring to Charlotte. He sat out this past season and has two years of eligibility left. Hudson too was a late bloomer and it wasn’t into his senior season that his recruiting started to gain tremendous traction. Currently, Josh stands a “lengthy” 6’1. He has long arms and legs and still sports a “baby face.”
On the court, Josh simply knows how to play. While he doesn’t have that perception of today’s point guard, he constantly made the right play throughout the day at the Phenom Hoop State Challenge. In the open court, Josh is constantly looking up to make the “pitch ahead” pass and does an excellent job of dribble penetration only to make the “kick out” pass to open teammates. In addition, Josh has a silky smooth shooting touch. He does an excellent job of putting the ball in the pocket and has a quick release with nice backspin, rotation and arch.
For Josh, it’s just a matter of time that his game will start to translate to the next level. We’re sure he has already heard the same things that his father and brother once heard when they were in high school. He’s not big enough, athletic enough or quick enough to play at the collegiate level. That being said, his father defied the odds and became an ACC and NBA star. His brother Hudson developed late in his career has proven the pundits wrong and don’t be surprised if Josh follows in his brother’s footsteps. Last but most important, Josh has tremendous faith in his future and also sports an impressive 3.7 GPA at Charlotte Christian. Without question, Josh is well grounded on and off the court. You wouldn’t expect it any other way!
