Personal:
Elvin is the product of a basketball family! His Dad, Elvin Edmonds III is his Coach at Hopewell HS and is the 2017 Conference 26 Boys Basketball Coach of the Year. His Mother, Jackie is the coach of the Hopewell HS girls team and also earned 2017 Conference 26 Coach of the Year honors…Elvin holds the school record for most three pointers in a game when he went 10-13 from beyond the arc, scoring 32 points as Hopewell won the championship of the Bill Littlepage Tipoff Classic in late November.
HS Coach Evaluation:
Elvin has a great character on and off the court. He is committed to getting better at every phase of the game. He is a very unselfish player that looks to make the basketball play. He is known for his ability to shoot with range but he has the ability to score at all three levels. He is a solid on ball defender and rebounds the ball at his position. – Coach Elvin Edmonds III, Head Coach Hopewell HS Basketball
Coach Frank says:
Elvin is a special player with all the tools to have sustained success. In addition to sound fundamentals and a high basketball IQ, he has a great length and athleticism. He is a gifted playmaker and a pure shooter. Elvin is a silky smooth player who possesses great ball handling skills and a lethal three point shot, has excellent court vision and does a great job controlling the flow of the game. He plays with a maturity beyond his years, has the look of a natural! A three level scorer and crafty finisher at the rim, Elvin’s shooting ability and great range coupled with his drive and kick ability makes him a tough defensive assignment. He has the ability to fight through contact and finish at the rim or stop on a dime and bury the jumper off the dribble. Very efficient with his touches! If left open he’s as automatic as anyone. Has excellent footwork offensively; stepping into shots, playing on balance and the ability to drive in either direction. For such a high level scorer he is very unselfish and skilled as a passer. He does a great job setting up passing angles and delivering the ball to his teammates, can make all the passes. His IQ is very evident in his defensive play where he has great positioning and sound footwork. He reads plays quickly and is quick enough to jump the passing lanes to get steals. Has long arms and active hands and is a very good on ball defender, guards multiple positions and also rebounds the basketball very well. Elvin is an exciting player to watch, as complete a player as I’ve seen in the state. Certainly one of the best prospects I’ve seen in the 2021 class throughout the summer and fall and will emerge among the nation’s best. He’s a high major prospect for sure!
