This past weekend, Phenom Hoops traveled to the Upward Star Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina for our annual Phenom Challenge. The venue holds a lot of history and countless fond memories, and that only continued during this most recent two-day stretch. There was an impressive mix of notable teams and individuals on display, including Ford Stratton and everything he showcased as a focal point. Folks should already be well-informed of the bouncy wing, but he should start to emerge as a real priority for college coaches over the coming months. Let’s take a closer look…

At 6-foot-6, Stratton possesses an enticing combination of skill, athleticism, and versatility. He moves very well for his size and typically stands out as one of the better athletes on the floor at any given time. Stratton knows how to put consistent pressure on the rim, both as a cutter and threat off the bounce, but can also knock down jumpers at a useful rate along the perimeter. He’s a solid ball-handler and willing passer who looks to make the right play with the ball in his hands. Stratton finishes well above the rim and through contact, but can also score effectively in traffic.

Additionally, he does a tremendous job of making hustle plays and doing the dirty work whenever necessary. Stratton crashes the glass well to push the break in transition or contend for putback opportunities. He’s capable of guarding multiple positions defensively and forcing turnovers at a quality rate. Stratton already highlights the ability to affect all facets of the game, but it’s clear that he still has upside remaining. Between his production, physical tools, and general potential, there’s a lot to like. Should he maintain his momentum going into the remainder of the summer, Stratton will emerge as a priority for scholarship-level coaches.
