Throughout the summer, players from across the region took advantage of the Phenom Hoops platform to elevate their games, expand their exposure, and make a lasting impression on our scouts. Whether it was through consistent production, improved skill sets, increased confidence, or an ability to impact winning, several prospects saw their stock rise in a significant way. As we begin our look at the Class of 2027, our scouts highlight five players who stood out and strengthened their recruitment with their play this summer.
2027 6’5 Nixon Wright
Wright has been trending in the right direction overall in the last year and should be catching some eyes his way. There are a lot of boxes he checks as far as a prospect worthy of being looked at by college coaches, especially with his athleticism, size, and overall impact. Wright continues to shine with his bounce and attacking the rim, overpowering opponents and finishing strong. He also can play and defend multiple positions, as well as finding ways to impact the game outside of scoring. Wright has proven to be a strong and effective piece on the court, as he should be garnering looks at the next level.
2027 6’9 Heath Johnson
Johnson is one I believe goes a bit under the radar, but watching him on a few occasions this summer, I see there is upside with his game as a big. As he continues to get stronger physically, it could only add more to his game, but you have to be impressed with his motor and overall skill set as a forward. Johnson operates well in the paint with touch and feel, showing solid footwork and feel, and the ability to attack the rim. But he also brings intrigue with his ability to stretch the floor at times as well, showcasing his upside. Johnson offers strong production offensively and on the glass, as he could be a sneaky prospect to watch in the Class of 2027.
2027 6’4 Jeremiah Jones
I’ve been impressed with Franklin each time I’ve watched him on the court, as he deserves to get a lot more attention from college programs with what he provides. Franklin provides physicality, size, and is an impact player all over the court. He proved that he can be a consistent presence attacking downhill and scoring through opponents, but is comfortable as well in playing from the perimeter to knock down shots from a variety of levels. What always grabs my attention with his game is his ability to put his body on the line and make those extra-effort plays.
2027 6’9 Daqavis Greene
Greene is a strong, sturdy big man who understands and embraces his identity as well as anyone. Equipped with incredible length and an imposing frame, he protects the rim at a high level, controls the glass, and consistently grabs rebounds within his area. Greene uses his body extremely well to carve out space, seal defenders, and establish deep post position. He is a reliable finisher and interior scorer who capitalizes on drop-offs, runs the floor hard, and fills the lane properly in transition. His approach is simple but extremely effective, allowing him to provide a dependable presence on both ends of the floor.
