What to Watch at Phenom Team Camp

This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel down to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to host our annual June Team Camp. The event always features a slew of the most talented teams and individuals within the Carolinas, and this year’s will be no different. Leading up to the event, we will take a closer look at players and subplots to monitor. After a successful year one and the recent shift in head coaches, there should be a lot of buzz surrounding Charlotte Performance Institute. Let’s take a closer look….
We took a closer look at their new head coach (DJ Jackson) and foundational pieces earlier last month, but JJ Sati-Grier’s recent announcement to transfer to Sierra Canyon certainly changes the initial vision for this group. However, the returning trio should still carry a heavy load. Jordan King is a polished offensive player with the IQ, creation skills, and scoring polish to consistently fill it up from all levels. He’ll have no issue operating as the primary creator. Though he’s often wired to score, King possesses useful playmaking instincts with the pace, quickness, and vision to set up others when available.
Meanwhile, guys like Carson Wilson and Deontae Pryor each fill meaningful positions for the Coyotes. Wilson is a natural glue-guy who can do a little bit of everything on the court. He plays hard and utilizes his body well on both ends of the floor. Wilson plays bigger than his listed height as a defender and rebounder, but also displays solid ball skills and two-way feel. On the other hand, Pryor is a long, fluid athlete with the size and athleticism to impact the game as an interior cog. He’s comfortable spacing the floor or switching onto guards defensively, but finds most of his success as a finisher, rebounder, and defender around the basket. It’s unclear who else they’ll have at Team Camp this weekend, but Charlotte Performance Institute will definitely be a team worth watching.
